104th Annual Meeting

The Classical Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS) will hold its 104th Annual Meeting in Tucson, beginning on the evening of Wednesday, April 16, 2008, and ending on the afternoon of Saturday, April 19, 2008, at the invitation of the University of Arizona. All sessions will be held in the Tucson Marriott University Park Hotel except those on Friday afternoon, which will take place on the University of Arizona campus.
Temperatures in Tucson in mid-April range from the mid- to upper 80's, sometimes higher, so bring a bathing suit, cool summer clothes, a hat, and sun block, and be sure to drink plenty of water!
MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
A margarita-punch reception in the Marriott, 8-10 p.m., on Wednesday, April 16, will open the meeting. Between Thursday morning and Saturday afternoon there will be 52 paper sessions and 16 panels on a variety of pedagogical and scholarly topics, plus a happy hour for graduate students, and special events sponsored by the Vergilian Society, the Women's Classical Caucus, SALVI, and SORGLL. Friday's schedule will include a double-barreled presidential panel in honor of Greg “The Virginian” Daugherty on “Classics and the American Western: Making Film, History, and Myth.” After the Friday-afternoon sessions a reception in the University of Arizona Museum of Art will be hosted by the Dean of the College of Humanities. Friday evening's banquet in the Marriott will be followed by a reception on the hotel's outdoor patio.
