Preparing Latin Teachers to Teach AP and Split-level Classes and to Participate in the Classics Profession

LeaAnn A. Osburn

Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers

High school Latin teachers often find themselves the only classicist at a school and thus thrust into teaching split level classes and advanced Latin or AP Latin courses often even during their first year in the classroom.  It is incumbent, therefore, upon those who train Latin teachers to teach the AP authors and to offer methodologies that work both in advanced and split-level classes. Teacher trainers also need to stress to our future classicists the importance of becoming part of a Latin teacher organization at the local, regional, or national level, most especially when the Latin teacher has no colleague inside the school and also to keep informed as the profession grows and changes.
