Funerary Ritual and the Archaeological Record: The Case of the Yasmina Cemetery in Carthage

Naomi J. Norman

University of Georgia

This illustrated presentation examines the evidence for funeral ritual as it is preserved in the archaeological record. The evidence is drawn primarily from the University of Georgia excavation of the Yasmina Cemetery in Carthage, a cemetery that was in use through much of the Roman period of the city and thus illuminates a wide range of Roman funerary practice in this important city of the Empire.
