Mark Golden died on April 9, 2020. He taught at the University of Winnipeg for over 30 years The Toronto Globe and Mail described him as “Canada’s foremost Classics scholar” for his work on the social history of Ancient Greece, and in many ways he shaped the direction of his specialty. His book Children and Childhood in Classical Athens is now in its second edition; he has six other books or edited volumes to his credit, not to mention some 48 journal articles and book chapters. A generous and popular professor who got the best out of his students, he was awarded the University of Winnipeg’s Erica and Arnold Rogers Award for Excellence in Research and Scholarship.
