EC Expresses Support for MLA's Petition to Revisit Decision on International Students
CAMWS welcomes international scholars and students and acknowledges their numerous contributions to our field. Accordingly, the CAMWS Executive Committee has voted to support the MLA's petition, already endorsed by the SCS and many other scholarly societies, asking Immigration and Customs Enforcement to revisit its decision to end temporary visa exemptions for international students whose upcoming coursework will be entirely online. The EC is concerned about the negative effects this decision will have on the educational opportunities of international students, as well as on US students whose educations are enriched by a diversity of colleagues.
Nota Bene: As the EC was voting unanimously to approve this statement, ICE rescinded its policy.
