Elizabeth Frances Jones of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away on October 22 after a brief, but difficult bout with pancreatic cancer. She was 79 years old. She was born on Staten Island, NY, as Elizabeth Frances Hunter. She graduated with honors from Albany State Teachers College in New York in 1954. She was then awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and spent a year studying and traveling in Italy. From 1956 to 1959 she was a graduate student in Classics at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, attaining a PhD in spring of the latter year. At Chapel Hill she also met and married Julian Ward Jones, Jr., a native of Fredericksburg, Va., and a fellow student of the Classics. In 1961 she came with her husband to Williamsburg when he obtained a position as a professor at the College of William and Mary. A few years later she embarked on a long teaching career at Christopher Newport College (now Christopher Newport University), retiring in 2001. She is survived by two sons, Gordon Bradford Jones of Falls Church, Va, and Douglas Ward Jones of Williamsburg. Also by one daughter-in-law, Presie Supremo Jones, and two grandsons, Xavier Jones and Zachary Jones, all of Williamsburg.
