Things to Do in Boulder

Here are some activities recommended by the Local Committee:

Hike

Colorado Chautauqua, a large park, the entrance  of which is at at 900 Baseline Road, www.chautauqua.com, features a ranger station, hiking trails winding up into the foothills and impressive views of Boulder and the Flatirons, the reddish slanting rock formations that are Boulder’s most defining landmark.

Bike

Bikes are available for rent at both the Millenium Harvest House Hotel and at Boulder B cycle stations located to the right outside of the entrance to the hotel and on Arapahoe between 28th Street and Folsom Avenue.  Boulder has an extensive nexus of bike paths, and maps can be obtained at both the hotel and the Boulder B cycle station.

Stroll

The campus of the University of Colorado Boulderis a lovely area in which to walk.  The campus is adjacent to the Millenium Harvest House Hotel and offers easy access.  CU’s spring break occurs during the time that CAMWS holds its meeting so most students will be away. When visiting, notice the unique architecture and attractive green spaces.  The CU Art Museum and the CU Museum of Natural History (303 492-6892) are both free and worth a visit.  They will be open on Thursday, March 27, but closed on Friday, March 28.

The Pearl Street Mall is a historic, four-block pedestrian mall stretching between 11th and 16th Streets.  It is a lively area full of people and lined by restaurants, galleries and shops.  Some of our favorites are:

Art Mart, 1326 Pearl (303 443-8248)

Art Source International, 1237 Pearl (303 444-4080)

Boulder Arts ad Crafts Gallery, 1421 Pearl (303 443-3683)

Boulder Book Store, 1107 Pearl (303 447-2074)

The Peppercorn, 1235 Pearl (303 449-8105)

Sip

Sample teas or other beverages and dine at the Dushanbe Teahouse, 1770 13th St. (303 442-4993)

This beautiful building was handcrafted and painted in Tajikistan, shipped to Boulder and assembled piece by piece.  The décor alone makes a visit worthwhile, and its selection of teas is amazing.

Find local craft beers, brewery tours and pub grub at the Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery, 1535 Pearl Street (303 546-0886)

Some days you will also find folk, acoustic and bluegrass music.

Sip wine and order small plates at the PMG Wine Bar, 2018 10th Street (303 786-8585). This spot, just west of the Pearl Street Mall, is one of Boulder’s most engaging new attractions.

Discover world famous cocktails and eat delicious desserts in a sophisticated atmosphere at The Bitter Bar, 835 Walnut Street (303 442-2050)
