OVERVIEW

THE CAMWS HANDBOOK

The CAMWS Handbook is designed to explain the goals and functions of the CAMWS Committee for the Promotion of Latin (CPL), the CAMWS Membership Committee (MC), and the CAMWS Steering Committee on Awards and Scholarships (SC). It outlines the major duties of committee members and of committee Chairs. It also describes the duties of the Regional and State/Provincial Vice-Presidents, especially as they relate to the functions of these three committees. This handbook also helps maintain continuity when new individuals are appointed to these committees.

PURPOSE OF THE COMMITTEE FOR THE PROMOTION OF LATIN

The Committee for the Promotion of Latin (CPL), a standing committee of CAMWS, was established in 1979 to create new Latin programs, to expand existing Latin programs, and to assist students of Latin in receiving in the greatest benefits from their study of Classics. The CPL consists of a Chair and two or three members appointed by the President of CAMWS. The First Vice-President of CAMWS serves as an ex officio member of this committee, as well. CPL maintains a web site at http://www.camwscpl.org.

PURPOSE OF THE MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

The Membership Committee (MC), another CAMWS standing committee, was established to increase and maintain the membership base of the association by utilizing the network of Regional and State/Provincial Vice-Presidents. The MC consists of a Chair and two or three members appointed by the President of CAMWS. The First Vice-President of CAMWS and the Secretary-Treasurer of the organization serve as ex officio members of this committee.

PURPOSE OF THE STEERING COMMITTEE ON AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS

The Steering Committee (SC) is composed of the Chairs of each scholarship and award committee, appointed by the CAMWS President. In addition to these members, the President appoints a committee Chair. This committee promotes and administers all CAMWS prizes.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

To serve each CAMWS region effectively and to facilitate the work of the CPL, MC, and SC, the Regional and State/Provincial Vice-Presidents have been organized in the following fashion: the Chairs of CPL, MC, and SC work primarily with the ten (10) Regional Vice-Presidents, each of whom works with the State/Provincial Vice-Presidents in his or her region. Regional and State/Provincial Vice-Presidents are appointed by the CAMWS President.
